Orem has grown to become one of the top art cities in the country. 

​In November 2005, Orem voters approved a 1/10th of 1% local sales and use tax ($.01 for every $10) for the purpose of enhancing recreation and cultural arts in the City of Orem. The Cultural Arts and Recreation Enrichment (CARE) Program went into effect in April 2006, and the first CARE grants were awarded in 2007.  The culture and arts have received funding ever since with many venue and performance improvements. 

Major announcements:
  • The construction of a new Hale Center community theater near Costco as a  $5M, 568-seat main stage theater with a proscenium thrust stage — meaning the audience surrounds three of the stage’s four sides — as well as a 200-seat black box theater and a grand lobby.
  • The Lakemount Manor, a 30,000 square foot mansion has been donated by the Bastian family to Orem and UVU and will house the UVU Museum of Art.
  • Scera Park Outdoor Shell is scheduled for a make-over with improvements to the shell, concessions, and seating.​
